Pinocchio's Adventures in Wonderland - Jordan Marsh Press 1899
$350.00
Pinocchio's Adventures in Wonderland, translated from the Italian with an introduction by Hezekiah Butterworth, published by Jordan marsh Press, 1899. Illustrations in color by Rene Quentin.
This book is pretty crazy. Apparently, it's actually just a pirated version of The Story of a Puppet, which in itself was a pirated version of Pinocchio.
This copy is in good condition given its age. The binding is tight and the pages all intact. The color plates are bright and vibrant. The gilt lettering on the cover is similarly bright. There is some fading to the green cloth on the spine, but the black letters are clear. This book has been in storage for many decades, and at some point, a mouse nibbled the top right corner of the cover and a little bit of the first pages.
This is a wonderful addition to any collector's library, particularly that of someone interested in the copyright liberties taken by publishers in the 19th and 20th centuries.
